Göteborg City Library

April 2014

After about ten years of rebuilding, the main public library in Göteborg is finally opening again! From the outside the new facade is a combination of glass and yellow bricks, making it both very contemporary, and at the same time connecting to the older buildings around the square Götaplatsen. The old library (1972, by Rune Lund) is quite intact, encapsulated within the new one by Peter Erséus, and several of the architectural highlights have been kept.

We are also very proud that Paxa Light is used in the interior! For visitors it is one of the first things you see when you enter the library, with black benches surrounding the large wooden staircase in the main entrance. Together with a concrete floor and an outer wall almost entirely in glass, it is a very beautiful space. Higher up, with access only for the staff, there are more Paxa Light benches, outside the meeting rooms and conference spaces.

If you are traveling to Scandinavia, we think Göteborg City Library is well worth a visit.

Blanka at Stockholm Furniture Fair

January 2014

If you are curious to see our new waste bin Blanka in real life, the first chance will be at Stockholm Furniture Fair in February. In Nola Industries' stand you will be able to see it together with other furniture and get a good feeling for it's materiality and slim appearence.

Danish-Italian GamFratesi is Guest of Honour 2014, among other things designing the lounge area by the entrance to the fair. See more of their work at http://gamfratesi.com. A personal favorite is their broom Baffi, with it's very graphical look when hung on a wall.

Stockholm Furniture Fair is the world's largest furniture fair with scandinavian design, with exhibitions and seminars for five days.

You find us and Nola at stand A12:31, 4-8 February 2014.

Take care of your garbage

September 2013

We are very proud to present Blanka, a new stylish waste bin for public spaces. On Elmia Fair in Jönköping (Sweden) we showed it for the first time to the public, and got very good feedback. It's a steel construction, with lacquered sides and a solid stainless top. We have made the form quite minimalistic, with a few finely crafted details.

The volume is 80 liters, but it gives the impression of being smaller and is easy to fit in. The width is 500 mm, to make it simlpe to use together with Paxa and Paxa Light, and depth is 220 mm and height 880 mm. The top can also have an integrated ashtray, with only an array of nine holes visible.

We also wanted to make emptying it easy. One of the sides opens up completely as a (lockable) door, and the inner trash can tilts out.

Music video for Imi Fal's The Man Who Sat Down

April 2013

Video is a media we're not often showing here, but as Ingemar Holmlid's ambient music project Imi Fal needed a music video, we decided to do it ourselves. We shot it in central Gothenburg, trying to capture the feeling of viewing the world from an outside position, deciding if you want to be a part of it or not.

New Blenda bicycle stand

February 2013

At Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair we showed a new version of our popular bicycle stand in Nola's booth. To make cycling even more attractive for everyday transportation we have added led-lights to light up the inside of the bollard. We have long dark winters here in Gothenburg but not much snow, and making the bicycle parkings more visible we think is a good step, and the built in light will also help with finding the right keys. We think this will also help creating attractive urban spaces, because that is probably one of the most important aspects of how we choose to transport ourselves.

Blenda at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2013

January 2013

Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair is the world's largest meeting place for Scandinavian furniture and lighting design, for both home and public environments. This year we will be showing an updated version of our bollard/bicycle stand Blenda. In these times of climate change, we feel that the bicycle is a good alternative way of transportation. It's simple, relatively fast and improves our health. Well-designed urban spaces we think is essential to make this a competitive alternative.

We support Vi Agroforestry Project!

December 2012

Vi Agroforestry (Vi-skogen) is a Swedish development organization that we have followed since we were kids. Vi magazine started tree plantings in the early 1980s, in the countries around Lake Victoria in eastern Africa. Since then they have planted large areas with agroforestry as the basic concept, which feels particularly good for us as landscape architects. We think this is a really good project and support it financially with great pleasure!

Light & Green

November 2012

In the deepest darkness of November we would like to share a project that co-founder Katarina has designed together with architect Mikael Broberg. It's a residential courtyard (Brf Oscar Linné) in central Gothenburg, that went from being a forgotten asphalt strip to a lush meeting place. And the tailor-made lighting is especially welcome this time of year!

dotR in Göteborgs-Posten

August 2012

Today our necklace dotR is on the Inspiration-page in Göteborgs-Posten! The theme is how paper is used by today's designers and is written by Frida Ramstedt. She also runs the design blog trendenser.se, one of the most popular in Sweden.  You might also want to check out artist Cecilia Levy's  "tableware" made in paper:

dotR at Rum För Papper

June 2012

One of our favorite places here in Gothenburg is Victoriapassagen. There is a density and a combination of rough and picturesque that makes it easy to linger there. Therefore, it is giving us great pleasure that Rum För Papper (Rooms For Paper) in Victoriapassagen is  now selling our necklace dotR!
Rum För Papper is one of Gothenburg's most well-stocked paper stores. We can rarely resist buying our office supplies here and always have Lessebo's swedish handmade paper on our wish list.

Paxa Light released

May 2012

We are very proud to announce Paxa Light, a neater version of Paxa. We have for some time wanted to make a slightly slimmer Paxa, but it is not until now that the pieces have fallen into place.
The legs are made of steel and the seat of wooden slats. All parts of the bench is painted in the same color. A few colors will be offered as standard, and other RAL or NCS colors will also be available as an option. Just as Paxa , it will work both indoors and outdoors. We are working on a center leg to make it possible to create really long benches. An armrest is also being developed.
We look forward to seeing what you can do with Paxa Light. Email us if you have a project you want to share!
You order as usual from www.nola.se/en
